The Group places strong emphasis on sound risk practices, working in close partnership with local leadership, Compliance, and Risk functions to ensure consistent oversight and regulatory preparedness throughout its operations.

Role Overview

The Risk & Governance Adviser will play a central role in shaping and embedding a proportionate risk management approach across the organisation, reporting into the Head of Governance. Based in Malta and covering the wider Group, the successful candidate will partner with local leadership teams, Compliance and Risk colleagues, and senior stakeholders to drive risk identification, evaluation, escalation, and reporting, with a specific focus on overseeing risk for the Group's Malta-based pension arrangements.

Key Responsibilities

Risk Framework Development: Contribute to building out and consistently applying the Group's risk management approach across relevant business units.
Pension Risk Oversight: Take ownership of, or assist with, the risk management responsibilities for the Group's Malta Retirement and Pension Schemes, covering risk registers, appetite setting, key risk indicators, incident tracking, and audit readiness.
Risk System Management: Maintain the Group's central risk management platform, keeping registers, controls, actions, ownership, and outputs accurate and current for informed decision-making.
Governance Reporting: Deliver clear, practical risk analysis and reporting to leadership teams, senior stakeholders, Boards, and other governance committees, offering constructive challenge where needed.
Risk Assessment Activities: Contribute to risk reviews, control testing, resilience planning, incident management, monitoring of emerging risks, and follow-up on assurance recommendations.
Stakeholder Coordination: Collaborate with Compliance, Internal Audit, and local risk representatives on shared governance, monitoring, and control initiatives.
Risk Culture Building: Promote a stronger risk-aware culture across the organisation through hands-on guidance, awareness sessions, and support around ownership and escalation practices.

Qualifications, Skills, and Attributes

Education: A degree or equivalent professional experience.
Experience: Background in enterprise, operational, or regulatory risk within financial services or a comparable regulated sector.
Technical Skills: Solid understanding of risk frameworks, registers, controls, KRIs, appetite setting, and reporting practices. Familiarity with risk management systems is a plus.
Regulatory Knowledge: Understanding of pensions regulation, including MFSA rules for Occupational Retirement Schemes and IORP II-derived governance principles, is beneficial.
Stakeholder Engagement: Track record of working with senior leaders and governance bodies across different entities or regions.
Personal Attributes: Strong analytical ability, attention to detail, sound judgement, and integrity, paired with the confidence to influence and constructively challenge.
Working Style: Hands-on, results-driven, and comfortable working independently within a complex, multi-region setting.
