Role Description The Head of Commercial is a full-time, on-site role based in Malta, responsible for driving revenue growth and commercial strategy for SideStreet. This role oversees advertising, sponsorships, partnerships, and other monetisation channels, working closely with editorial, marketing, and product teams to align commercial initiatives with the platform’s mission and audience needs. Day-to-day tasks include setting commercial targets, managing key client relationships, negotiating contracts, analyzing performance data, and identifying new business opportunities. The Head of Commercial will lead and develop a small commercial team, implement pricing and packaging strategies, and ensure compliance with relevant regulations and ethical standards in news media. This position also involves preparing regular forecasts and reports for senior leadership and contributing to long-term strategic planning.

Qualifications

Demonstrated experience in commercial leadership, business development, or sales management within media, digital platforms, or related industries.
Proven ability to develop and execute revenue strategies, including advertising, sponsorships, subscriptions, or partnerships.
Strong skills in client relationship management, contract negotiation, and stakeholder communication.
Comfort working with data, metrics, and financial reports to guide decision-making and performance optimization.
Experience leading and mentoring teams, with a collaborative and inclusive management style.
Working knowledge of digital media, online publishing, and evolving commercial models in news and content businesses.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to present complex information clearly.
High level of integrity, commitment to ethical commercial practices, and an interest in journalism and public discourse.
Ability to work on-site in Malta
