The Transaction Monitoring Analyst is responsible for the ongoing monitoring of transactional activity across Payfuture's merchant and customer base

Key Responsibilities

Perform ongoing monitoring of merchant and customer transactions, identifying activity inconsistent with expected profiles or known financial crime typologies.
Investigate alerts generated by the transaction monitoring system, gathering supporting evidence from transaction history, KYC/KYB records, and external research to reach a clear, well-documented conclusion.
Escalate potentially suspicious activity to the DMLRO & MLRO promptly and with clear rationale, supporting the Company's obligation to submit Suspicious Transaction Reports (STRs) to the FIAU via goAML without undue delay.
Support monitoring of correspondent banking, reliance, and nested/downstream relationships (e.g. remittance partners, agent networks) to ensure activity remains consistent with agreed look- through and EDD arrangements.
Provide transaction-level input into Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD) reviews for higher-risk merchants and relationships.
Assist in the periodic review and calibration of monitoring rules, scenarios, and thresholds to improve alert quality and reduce false positives.
Maintain accurate, audit-ready case files and monitoring logs in line with Payfuture's record- keeping obligations.
Work with the Onboarding team to ensure risk classifications and expected activity profiles feed accurately into monitoring parameters, both at onboarding and during periodic reviews.
Produce regular MI on alert volumes, ageing, escalation outcomes, and monitoring effectiveness for the MLRO and senior management.
Support internal audits, regulatory inspections, and independent AML/CFT reviews relating to transaction monitoring.
Keep up to date with emerging typologies, sanctions developments, and high-risk jurisdictions (e.g. FATF and EU high-risk third-country lists), assessing their relevance to Payfuture's monitoring approach.

Essential Requirements

2–4 years' experience in transaction monitoring, AML/CFT, or financial crime compliance within a regulated financial services environment (EMI, PSP, EMD, bank, or MSB).
Working knowledge of Malta's AML/CFT framework (PMLFTR, FIAU Implementing Procedures) or an equivalent EU AMLD-based regime, with willingness to build Malta-specific expertise.
Practical experience with transaction monitoring or case management systems, and the ability to interpret alerts against known typologies.
Strong analytical and investigative skills, comfortable working across transactional and merchant data to identify patterns and anomalies.
Clear, evidence-based written communication for escalations and internal reports.
Raise both internal and external Suspicious Transaction Reports (STRs), including direct filing with the FIAU via goAML where authorised.
High attention to detail and the ability to manage a live caseload against SLAs.
Sound judgement and discretion when handling sensitive financial crime information.

Desirable

Professional certification (e.g. ICA, ACAMS, or equivalent).
Experience monitoring higher-risk verticals, with higher volume.
Exposure to correspondent banking or nested/reliance relationship monitoring.
Familiarity with sanctions and PEP screening alongside transaction monitoring.
Basic SQL or data analysis skills for ad hoc investigation work.
