We are looking for an experienced Head of Compliance to join a regulated cryptocurrency exchange based in Sofia, Bulgaria.

This is a senior role with responsibility for the company’s compliance framework, regulatory relationships and ongoing adherence to applicable Bulgarian and EU financial services and crypto regulations.

The candidate must be based in Sofia, Bulgaria.

Key responsibilities

Lead and maintain the company’s compliance framework, policies and procedures
Act as a key point of contact with Bulgarian regulatory authorities
Monitor regulatory developments affecting crypto assets, financial services, AML and related areas
Oversee AML, KYC, transaction monitoring, sanctions and risk management processes
Ensure regulatory filings, reporting obligations and internal compliance requirements are completed correctly and on time
Support regulatory applications, inspections, audits and supervisory reviews
Advise management on regulatory and compliance matters
Work closely with legal, operations, product and technology teams
Manage relationships with external legal counsel, auditors and compliance providers where required
Build and maintain an effective compliance culture across the organisation

Requirements

Must be based in Sofia, Bulgaria
Strong professional background in regulated financial services, payments, banking, fintech or another regulated sector
Prior experience working with or in front of Bulgarian regulatory authorities is strongly preferred
Good understanding of Bulgarian and EU AML and financial regulatory requirements
Experience holding a senior compliance, MLRO, regulatory or similar position
Strong understanding of KYC, AML, sanctions, transaction monitoring and regulatory reporting
Professional fluency in Bulgarian and English
Ability to work independently and take ownership of the compliance function

Experience within cryptocurrency, digital assets, blockchain or a crypto exchange is highly desirable, but not mandatory for candidates with a strong regulatory background.

We are looking for someone who understands how regulated businesses operate in practice and is comfortable taking responsibility for a compliance function in a fast-moving international environment.

The position is based in Sofia and requires regular physical presence in Sofia.
