Experienced Maritime Surveyor / Marine Engineer

Marine and Industrial Consultancy Services Ltd (MICS) is seeking to recruit an Experienced Maritime Surveyor / Marine Engineer to join its established technical consultancy practice in Malta.

The successful candidate will work within a professional team providing marine surveying, naval architectural, engineering and consultancy services to clients in the maritime, commercial shipping, superyacht and marine industries.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be involved in a wide range of marine and engineering assignments, including:

Marine and vessel condition surveys.
Pre-purchase, on-hire and off-hire surveys.
New construction and repair supervision.
Marine, structural and machinery inspections.
Technical investigations and failure assessments.
Preparation of technical reports and professional opinions.
Assessment of vessels, machinery, structures and marine equipment.
Naval architectural and marine engineering calculations and assessments.
Ship stability assessments and preparation and review of stability conditions.
Inspection and verification of workmanship and materials.
Preparation and review of technical specifications, drawings and engineering documentation.
Liaison with shipyards, shipowners, operators, contractors, classification societies and authorities.
Attendance at shipyards, ports, marinas and other marine facilities as required.
Supporting the company's consultancy, engineering and surveying projects.
Representing MICS professionally in dealings with clients and other stakeholders.

The role will involve both office-based technical work and field assignments, including vessel and shipyard attendance.

Qualifications

The candidate shall hold:

A recognized Engineering Degree equivalent to a minimum of 240 ECTS credits at MQF Level 6, preferably in:
Naval Architecture;
Marine Engineering;
Mechanical Engineering; or
a closely related engineering discipline.

Professional qualifications, additional technical certifications and relevant maritime qualifications will be considered an advantage.

Professional Experience

The successful candidate shall have proven professional experience in the maritime, marine engineering, shipbuilding, ship repair, vessel operations, surveying or related industry.

The candidate should demonstrate practical experience and competency in relevant areas of marine engineering and naval architecture, including:

Ship stability, including intact stability assessments and stability calculations.
Understanding and application of relevant statutory, classification and stability requirements.
Marine structural assessment and engineering calculations.
Finite Element Method (FEM) / Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and interpretation of engineering results.
Preparation and review of engineering calculations and technical reports.
Marine and vessel inspections and condition assessment.
Shipbuilding and ship repair.
Marine machinery and engineering systems.
New construction and repair supervision.
Classification society requirements and rules.
Statutory and flag-state requirements.

Experience in yacht, commercial vessel or offshore projects will be considered an advantage.

Software and Digital Competency

The candidate shall have demonstrated competency in the use of engineering and naval architectural software, including, where applicable:

Rhinoceros (Rhino) for 3D modelling and naval architectural applications.
Ship stability software for stability calculations and analysis.
FEM/FEA software for structural analysis.
CAD and technical drawing software.
Microsoft Office and other relevant engineering software.

AI literacy and an ability to use AI-assisted tools effectively and responsibly for technical research, engineering workflows, data processing, document preparation, report writing, analysis and productivity will be considered an advantage.

The ability to develop, review and interpret 3D models, stability calculations, structural analyses and engineering drawings is required.
