Job Summary

Overall Purpose:

The job holder shall manage the strategic development, implementation and continuous improvement of health and safety programs across BOV. The job holder shall ensure compliance with all relevant legislation and standards, fostering a proactive safety culture and mitigating risks to protect employees, contractors, visitors and the environment. By collaborating with cross-functional teams and higher management, the Senior Manager shall drive initiatives that promote wellbeing, prevent incidents and support the organisation’s commitment to a safe and healthy workplace.

Key Responsibilities

The job holder will be responsible for:

▪ Strategic Leadership & Compliance Oversight

▪ Proposing and executing the BOV’s health and safety strategy in alignment with business objectives and regulatory requirements.

▪ Keeping up to date with current legislation, subsidiary legislation and the latest health and safety standards, with particular focus on issues relevant to banking practices

▪ Ensuring compliance with local and international health and safety laws, standards and codes of practice

▪ Policy Development, Frameworks & Implementation

▪ Managing the creation, review and enforcement of health and safety policies, procedures and protocols

▪ Ensuring policies are communicated effectively and embedded across all departments

▪ Operational Oversight & Workplace Safety

▪ Overseeing the safe installation and maintenance of equipment within the Bank’s premises, ensuring adherence to health and safety protocols

▪ Participating in and supervising work carried out on-site to ensure proper health and safety standards are maintained

▪ Managing and coordinating health and safety measures for all Bank-organised public events, ensuring appropriate risk assessments and controls are in place

▪ Risk Management, Incident Response & Emergency Preparedness

▪ Identifying, assessing and mitigating health and safety risks across all functions

▪ Managing investigations into incidents, ensuring root cause analysis and implementation of corrective actions

▪ Developing and maintaining emergency response and business continuity plans

▪ Coordinating drills and training to ensure readiness for various emergency scenarios

▪ Training, Awareness & Safety Culture Building

▪ Designing and delivering health and safety training programs tailored to banking operations

▪ Promoting a culture of safety through awareness campaigns, leadership engagement and employee participation

▪ Monitoring, Reporting & Continuous Improvement

▪ Monitoring health and safety performance through audits, inspections and data analysis

▪ Managing the investigation of incidents, accidents and near-misses, ensuring root cause analysis and corrective actions are implemented

▪ Preparing and presenting reports to higher management and regulatory bodies, highlighting trends, risks and improvement opportunities

▪ Stakeholder Engagement & Advisory Support

▪ Collaborating with internal departments, sections, contractors and external agencies to ensure consistent and effective safety practices

▪ Acting as the primary advisor to higher management on health and safety matters

In addition to the specific functions, management may assign more duties as required for the job from time to time.

Knowledge:

Health and safety legislation and standards, specifically those relevant to banking operations - Advanced
Risk Management and/or Assessments - Advanced

▪ Demonstrating integrity and accountability in all actions while upholding the highest safety standards, even under pressure or competing priorities

▪ Working effectively across departments and with external stakeholders, using influence to promote and reinforce a unified safety culture

▪ Responding to emergencies with composure and clarity, making sound, timely decisions based on evidence and best practice

Required Criteria:

Previous proven work experience of six (6) years in a health and safety-related environment or related area, two (2) years of which managing a team, project or initiative, a valid driving license - being able to drive both automatic and manual transmissions and part of the OHSA Competent Persons Register, and an MQF Level 6 Award in Occupational Health & Safety Management or related field.

Previous proven work experience of eight (8) years in a health and safety-related environment or related area, two (2) years of which managing a team, project or initiative, a valid driving license - being able to drive both automatic and manual transmissions and part of the OHSA Competent Persons Register.

Previous proven work experience of four (4) years in a health and safety-related environment or related area, two (2) years of which managing a team, project or initiative, a valid driving license - being able to drive both automatic and manual transmissions and part of the OHSA Competent Persons Register and an MQF Level 6 Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Health & Safety Management or related field.

Applicants are required to satisfy the Bank’s minimum eligibility criteria of four (4) O’Levels at Grade 5/C or higher, including English Language, in addition to any role‑specific requirements outlined above. This requirement shall not apply where applicants are already in possession of an MQF Level 6 Degree or higher.
