We are seeking an experienced Senior PostgreSQL DBA to take ownership of mission-critical database infrastructure supporting high-volume iGaming operations.

This role is responsible for the design, performance, availability, security, scalability, and operational excellence of PostgreSQL environments running primarily on Amazon RDS PostgreSQL and Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL.

The ideal candidate has extensive experience operating large-scale PostgreSQL deployments in regulated, 24/7 environments and understands the unique demands of online gaming platforms, including player wallets, transactional systems, settlements, KYC data, audit requirements, and peak traffic events.

You must be located in Malta. Relocation is not offered.

Responsibilities

We are seeking an experienced Senior PostgreSQL DBA to take ownership of mission-critical database infrastructure supporting high-volume iGaming operations.

You must be located in Europe.

Requirements

Minimum 10 years of professional experience as a DBA, with the majority on PostgreSQL in production.
Demonstrable, hands-on experience operating PostgreSQL on Amazon RDS (and ideally Aurora PostgreSQL) at scale, in a 24/7 environment.
Mandatory iGaming experience: you have operated databases for online casino, sportsbook, poker, lottery, or wallet/PSP systems and you understand the operational and regulatory specifics of the industry (peak traffic, jackpots, settlement, KYC/AML data, player data segregation, audit trails).
Expert-level SQL and PL/pgSQL: complex queries, window functions, CTEs, stored procedures, triggers.
Deep knowledge of PostgreSQL internals: MVCC, WAL, vacuum/autovacuum, buffers, planner/optimizer, locks, isolation levels.
Proven track record in query and index optimisation on multi-TB databases with high write throughput.
Strong experience with partitioning (declarative partitioning, pg_partman) and large-table maintenance.
Solid AWS networking and security knowledge: VPC, subnets, security groups, parameter/option groups, IAM, KMS, Secrets Manager.
Backup, restore, and PITR strategies validated through regular DR drills.
Scripting and automation: Bash and Python; comfortable with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation) for managing RDS resources.
Experience integrating PostgreSQL with caching layers (Redis / ElastiCache) and message brokers (Kafka, SQS, RabbitMQ).
Excellent written and spoken English; able to operate in an international, distributed team.

Nice to Have

AWS certifications: Solutions Architect – Associate/Professional, Database – Specialty.
Experience with Aurora PostgreSQL Limitless, RDS Proxy, and Babelfish.
Hands-on with logical replication tools (pglogical, Debezium) for CDC into data lakes / warehouses.
Experience with analytics offload: Redshift, Snowflake, ClickHouse, or columnar replicas.
Exposure to NoSQL stores used alongside PostgreSQL (DynamoDB, MongoDB, Redis Streams).
Familiarity with regulated markets compliance frameworks: MGA, ADM/AAMS, UKGC, ONJN, Curaçao, Ontario AGCO.
Open-source contributions to the PostgreSQL ecosystem.

Benefits

Work on tier-1 iGaming platforms with real scale, real traffic, and real challenges (peak loads, low-latency requirements, strict regulatory compliance).
Modern AWS-first stack: RDS PostgreSQL, ElastiCache, EKS, Lambda, Terraform, GitOps.
Flat structure, direct access to founders and CTO, no bureaucracy.
Hybrid work in our Hub.
Competitive package: gross salary aligned with senior market benchmarks (Malta / Italy / EU), performance bonus, private health insurance, learning budget (conferences, AWS certifications, training).
Top-tier hardware of your choice and home-office stipend.
24 days paid leave + national holidays and 10 days sick leave
