Job Purpose

The Warehouse Assistant is responsible for supporting the day-to-day operation of the warehouse, including receiving, checking, storing, picking, packing and preparing goods for dispatch.

The Warehouse Assistant is expected to maintain accurate stock records, keep the warehouse organised and clean, and follow company procedures and health and safety requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Receiving Goods
- Receive incoming goods and deliveries.
- Check deliveries against delivery notes, purchase orders or other relevant documentation.
- Check quantities and identify any visible damage or discrepancies.
- Report missing, damaged or incorrect items to the Warehouse Supervisor.
- Label and store goods in the appropriate warehouse location.
- Ensure goods are handled carefully to prevent damage.
Storage
- Store products and materials in their designated locations.
- Keep warehouse areas clean, organised and accessible.
- Maintain proper identification and labelling of stock.
- Ensure stock is stored safely and appropriately.
- Follow stock rotation procedures where applicable.
- Report damaged, obsolete or unidentified stock to the Warehouse Supervisor.
Picking and Packing
- Pick items accurately according to customer orders or internal requests.
- Check item codes, descriptions and quantities before packing.
- Pack goods appropriately to prevent damage during handling and transport.
- Label packages correctly for dispatch.
- Report any stock shortage or discrepancy before completing an order.
Dispatch
- Prepare orders for collection or delivery.
- Check that the correct goods and quantities are prepared.
- Assist with loading and unloading vehicles safely.
- Complete or assist with dispatch documentation.
- Ensure goods are handed over to authorised personnel or transport providers.
Stock Control
- Assist with regular stock counts and inventory checks.
- Maintain accurate stock records.
- Report stock discrepancies to the Warehouse Supervisor.
- Assist with investigations into missing, damaged or incorrect stock.
- Ensure stock movements are recorded according to company procedures.
Warehouse Housekeeping
- Maintain the warehouse in a clean, tidy and organised condition.
- Keep aisles, emergency exits and working areas clear.
- Dispose of packaging and waste appropriately.
- Report damaged shelving, equipment or other safety hazards.
- Assist with general warehouse maintenance and organisation.

Health and Safety

Follow all company health and safety procedures.
Use appropriate personal protective equipment where required.
Follow safe manual-handling practices.
Use warehouse equipment only when trained and authorised.
Report accidents, injuries, near misses and unsafe conditions immediately.
Follow safe procedures when loading and unloading vehicles.
Maintain clear access to emergency exits and safety equipment.

Equipment

The Warehouse Assistant may be required to use:

Palletiser
Lifter
Warehouse shelving and storage equipment.
Scanners or warehouse management systems.
Computers and basic office equipment.

Responsibilities and Authority

The Warehouse Assistant is responsible for:

Handling stock carefully and accurately.
Following warehouse procedures.
Reporting discrepancies and problems promptly.
Maintaining good housekeeping standards.
Protecting company property and stock.
Maintaining confidentiality regarding company and customer information.

The Warehouse Assistant must refer any significant stock discrepancy, damaged goods, unusual delivery, safety issue or other problem to the Warehouse Supervisor or Manager.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential
- Previous warehouse experience is an advantage.
- Ability to read and understand basic written instructions.
- Basic computer skills.
- Ability to safely lift and handle goods where required using a lifter and palletiser
Desirable
- Previous experience in a warehouse or logistics environment.
- Experience using stock / inventory systems.
- Forklift or other equipment certification, where applicable.
