Role Overview

The Senior Tax Executive will join the Client's tax division and handle a varied portfolio of domestic and international assignments. Working closely with departmental management, the selected individual will coordinate compliance engagements, contribute to technically complex advisory work and guide less-experienced colleagues while continuing to deepen their own taxation knowledge.

Key Responsibilities

Tax Filings: Compile and check income tax calculations and submissions for companies and individuals, while verifying supporting forms and schedules completed by junior team members.
VAT Assignments: Examine VAT submissions and assessments, investigate specialised VAT questions and help formulate well-researched written conclusions.
Team Guidance: Allocate appropriate support to junior colleagues and oversee the accuracy and timely completion of their taxation and VAT-related work.
Regulatory Liaison: Communicate with the relevant Maltese authorities in connection with standard filings, enquiries and other taxation requirements.
Technical Advisory: Support the preparation of written guidance concerning domestic and cross-border taxation, including matters governed by notional interest deduction provisions and fiscal unity regulations.
Client Portfolio Management: Develop trusted professional relationships with clients, understand their requirements and maintain a consistently high standard of assistance.
Compliance Coordination: Monitor applicable deadlines and help clients fulfil their recurring taxation responsibilities within the required timeframes.
Legislative Awareness: Follow changes affecting taxation in Malta and overseas, assessing how new rules or interpretations could influence client circumstances.
Knowledge Development: Help expand the department's internal technical materials, guidance notes and reference resources.

Qualifications, Skills and Attributes

Education: Applicants should hold, or be close to completing, a recognised accountancy qualification through the University of Malta or ACCA.
Experience: Approximately 3 to 4 years of relevant experience in taxation is expected, including practical involvement in checking returns and detailed calculations.
Tax Knowledge: A sound understanding of Malta's taxation framework and the ability to apply legislation to practical client matters are essential.
Language Skills: A high standard of spoken and written English and Maltese is required for this position.
Communication Skills: The successful candidate must convey technical information clearly and correspond professionally with clients, colleagues and public authorities.
Interpersonal Skills: A cooperative manner, constructive attitude and ability to establish positive working relationships are important.
Technical Skills: Confidence using Microsoft Office and other common business software is required.
Organisation: The ability to determine priorities, manage competing assignments and consistently meet deadlines in a busy setting is essential.
Attention to Detail: Applicants must approach calculations, documentation and regulatory submissions with care and precision.
Self-Motivated: A forward-thinking individual who takes ownership of assignments and works effectively with limited supervision will be well suited to the position.
Teamwork: The role requires someone who can operate independently while also contributing positively to shared departmental objectives.
Problem-Solving: Candidates should be comfortable examining complicated taxation questions, carrying out thorough research and developing practical, well-supported conclusions.
Applicant Eligibility: Applications may be considered from EU nationals and third-country nationals who satisfy the position's essential requirements and can demonstrate established connections with Malta.

Employment Terms: An indefinite contract is available on a full-time or reduced-hours basis, with part-time arrangements starting from 30 hours weekly.
