The DoctorateHub Higher Education Institution for Advanced Studies and its Graduate School of Business and Management (GSBM) are building a new model for developing doctoral capability—one that combines academic rigour with practical application for professionals, entrepreneurs and organisational leaders.

As we establish our first local DoctorateHub Malta Hub, we are now recruiting for our Malta-based Founding Faculty.

Who We Are Looking For

We welcome applications from:

Experienced academics with a strong record in doctoral education, supervision or research.
Experienced professionals holding a research doctorate (DBA, PhD or equivalent) who wish to contribute to doctoral-level learning and supervision.

Whether your career has been primarily inside academia or in industry, we are interested in people who can help others develop doctoral capability.

Minimum Candidate Requirements

Applicants should typically be based in Malta, they must hold a research doctorate (PhD, DBA or equivalent) and have substantial experience in their field, whether in academia, business, professional practice or research.

Candidates should demonstrate the ability to engage with complex problems, research-based inquiry and doctoral-level thinking, together with a genuine interest in Supporting others develop doctoral capability.

Previous experience in doctoral supervision is welcome but not required. Our DoctorateHub GSBM Faculty Development Programme provides a structured pathway for experienced doctoral professionals who are new to doctoral supervision, enabling them to develop their supervisory practice and become progressively involved in teaching, mentoring, reviewing and supervision within our collaborative faculty model.

Our Faculty & Supervision Model

At DoctorateHub GSBM, we believe it takes a village to support a doctoral student. Rather than assigning each candidate to a single supervisor, we have developed a collaborative Supervision Team Model. Students benefit from the collective expertise of supervisors, subject specialists, mentors and academic reviewers who contribute at different stages of the doctoral journey. This reflects the collaborative academic model described in our accredited DBA programme, where doctoral candidates are guided by an expert supervision team throughout their research progression.

Depending on their expertise, faculty members may contribute through:

doctoral supervision;
specialist teaching;
workshops and masterclasses;
proposal and progress reviews;
assessments;
conference panels and viva preparation;
curriculum and academic development; and
development of institutional, corporate and public-sector collaborations where opportunities arise.

Our Faculty & Supervision Model operates under a freelance faculty principle that optimises engagement in between the faculty and doctoral candidates. Faculty members act as independent professionals who are remunerated for the activities they undertake. There is no fixed monthly salary and no minimum workload. Faculty members decide which activities they wish to undertake, allowing them to combine DoctorateHub GSBM workload and commitment with their existing academic or professional careers while contributing to a collaborative supervision community.

As DoctorateHub continues to expand internationally, faculty members may also choose to contribute to the development of new academic, corporate and public-sector partnerships aligned with their expertise and professional networks.

Becoming a Malta Hub Doctoral Founding Faculty Member

All selected candidates will need to successfully complete our Mastering Doctoral Supervision – Foundational Course and graduate with distinction, ensuring a shared approach to doctoral supervision and learner development across our faculty community.
